"Sympathy" and "charity", in English language, are completely different words.

Sympathy stands for

mutual understanding or affection arising from any relationship.

Charity, on the other hand, refers to

Provision of help or relief to the poor; almsgiving.

In the Anglo culture, Charity flowers are meant to provide fundraising to an organization. Sympathy flowers are the ones we deposit to the dead as an offer.

And yet, in Spanish, those same funerary flowers are called "Coronas de Caridad" or "(Crown of) charity flowers", like if you give flowers to the dead for economical pity.

Meanwhiles "Simpatía" in Spanish, can be translated either as "fondness" or "likeness". There are no such things as "Coronas de Simpatía" in the Latin American culture.

Strange.

The CIA World Factbook 2004 says the life expectancy in China nowadays is 71.96years.

I can foresee the death of Confucianism in China: if health & techique improve over there enough to prolong the population's life expectancy similar to Western standards, the elder will stop being respected as a venerable institution of society, and will start to be seen as a major welfare problem.
Too many old people is any Marxist's nightmare.

In a world when writing has more content than telling, yet less audience, I cannot stop thinking of the Roman oratorical masters: Cicero, Seneca. Rome was the place were rhetorics - as an art - had its zenith. Addressing the people in a beautiful way was considered POETRY. These days there are nothing but clowns misleading the masses, in a poor way - aesthetically speaking.

Look, folks, policy-makers, if you are gonna lie to us at least do it nicely: that means, not being so ridiculously obvious.

What if destiny is nothing but a blind and dull ping-pong game between "past" and "present"? Let's imagine, for one minute, life as a mp3 playlist:

1. Its duration depends on how long you want it to be. If you cannot actually choose how or when it will end, maybe it's because your playlist capacity is limited.

2. "Free will" would be understood as the amount of choice you have to select your mp3s (i.e. decissions in life). Whether you'll end up having an interesting existence or a lame passage on Earth is ultimately your fault: you cannot blame the rest because they have better tastes on music than you do.

3. What we call History is viewable here as the option some media players like Windows Media Player 10 - have of a playlist history when using the random reproduction mode: you can check the last songs you've played, as well as the ones coming ahead, but no further than a certain point, because the list starts all over again.
