"Sympathy" and "charity", in English language, are completely different words.
Sympathy stands for
mutual understanding or affection arising from any relationship.
Charity, on the other hand, refers to
Provision of help or relief to the poor; almsgiving. In the Anglo culture, Charity flowers are meant to provide fundraising to an organization. Sympathy flowers are the ones we deposit to the dead as an offer.
And yet, in Spanish, those same funerary flowers are called "Coronas de Caridad" or "(Crown of) charity flowers", like if you give flowers to the dead for economical pity.
Meanwhiles "Simpatía" in Spanish, can be translated either as "fondness" or "likeness". There are no such things as "Coronas de Simpatía" in the Latin American culture.
Strange.
